For this year’s Governor’s Housing conference, we’re zoned in on zoning.
First, join us Wednesday morning at 10am in Conference Room A-B for ZONED IN: Supporting Zoning Reform.
This year, HousingForward Virginia has been piloting a zoning education initiative in Hampton Roads called ZONED IN. We’re kicking off this year’s GHC with a special presentation featuring experts in land use and planning. We’ll have discussions about what zoning reform can do, how it can be accomplished, and what progress HousingForward has made with ZONED IN.
- Yonah Freemark, Land Use Lab at Urban Institute
- Lian Plass, ULI Urban Resilience Program
- Kellie Brown, Arlington County
- Moderator: Anastasia Mason, Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association
Then, come see our Snap Session on the Virginia Zoning Atlas on Thursday, 1:30pm in Meeting Room 108.
HousingForward Virginia is launching the new Virginia Zoning Atlas to educate residents on zoning and its impact on housing affordability. The free resource aims to standardize zoning ordinances across the Commonwealth and show their impact on residential uses. This initiative is part of a larger research collaborative called the National Zoning Atlas. In this session, panelists will review HousingForward Virginia’s efforts and highlight recently completed Atlases in Connecticut, Montana, and New Hampshire, which informed policymakers and initiated discussions on statewide zoning reform.
- Emily Hamilton, Mercatus Center at George Mason University
- Jonathan Knopf, HousingForward Virginia
- Eric Mai, HousingForward Virginia
- Moderator: Chase Sawyer, DHCD
These events are open to all registered VAGHC attendees. Seats are first-come, first-serve.
And of course, don’t forget to visit us in the Exhibit Hall to pick up some swag and try a live demo of the Virginia Zoning Atlas.
We are in booth number 40, next to Serve Virginia and Lawson and across the aisle from Atlantic Union, VCDC, and the City of Alexandria.
